Broadway’s ‘& Juliet’ Announces Final Broadway Performance

Broadway’s “& Juliet” will play its final performance at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on January 3, 2027, ending a run of more than four years.

The jukebox musical began previews on October 28, 2022, before officially opening on November 17. By the time it closes, the production will have played 1,723 regular performances and 20 previews, placing it among the 50 longest-running musicals in Broadway history.

“& Juliet” has grossed more than $175 million and welcomed more than 1.5 million audience members during its Broadway engagement. In 2024, it became the first new musical from its Broadway season to recoup its investment.

“We’re incredibly proud of the run we’ve had on Broadway,” producers Theresa Steele Page and Eva Price said in a statement announcing the closing.

The musical offers an alternate ending to William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” imagining what would happen if Juliet survived and decided to begin a new life without Romeo. The story was written by David West Read and features songs written or co-written by producer Max Martin. The production is directed by Luke Sheppard and choreographed by Jennifer Weber.

“& Juliet” received nine Tony Award nominations in 2023, including Best Musical. Original cast members Lorna Courtney and Betsy Wolfe were nominated for their performances as Juliet and Anne, respectively.

The Broadway company is currently led by Gianna Harris as Juliet. The cast also includes Chrissy Metz as Angélique, Alison Luff as Anne, Corey Mach as Shakespeare, Michael Iván Carrier as May and Paulo Szot and Joey Fatone sharing select performances as Lance.

Several performers are scheduled to make their Broadway debuts during the show’s final months. Kenzie Ziegler, Spencer Sutherland and Anthony Gargiula join the production beginning September 15, while Aly Michalka begins performances as Anne on November 3.

The show has also expanded well beyond New York. Productions have played 73 U.S. cities, 34 states and Washington, D.C., while international stagings have reached nine countries across four continents. The North American touring production is scheduled to continue through November 2026.
