Rosie O’Donnell to Join Broadway’s “The Rocky Horror Show” for Limited Run

Rosie O’Donnell will return to Broadway next month for a limited engagement in “The Rocky Horror Show,” temporarily taking over the role of the Narrator at Studio 54.

O’Donnell will appear in the Tony-nominated musical revival from October 6 through October 18. She will fill in for Rachel Dratch, who is taking a brief leave from the production. Dratch is scheduled to resume performances on October 20.

“Could not be more thrilled,” O’Donnell wrote while announcing the casting on Instagram. She added that Broadway “is the place show biz lives up to its dream” and said she could not wait to join the production.

The engagement follows O’Donnell’s recent Off-Broadway appearance in her one-woman show, “Common Knowledge,” which played 12 sold-out performances at the Daryl Roth Theatre from July 22 through August 8.

Directed by Sam Pinkleton, the current revival of Richard O’Brien’s “The Rocky Horror Show” began previews on March 26 and officially opened on April 23. The production received nine Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Revival of a Musical.

The current cast includes Lorna Courtney as Janet, Kevin McHale as Brad, Jake Shears as Frank-N-Furter, Amber Gray as Riff Raff, Jimin Moon as Rocky, Sherie Rene Scott as Magenta and Valentina as Columbia. George Salazar plays the dual roles of Eddie and Dr. Scott.

The production set a Studio 54 box-office record during the week ending June 28, grossing more than $1.2 million. Its Broadway engagement has been extended twice, with performances now scheduled through February 28, 2027. An original Broadway cast recording is also planned, although its release date has not been announced.
