‘Galileo’ Announces Full Broadway Cast Ahead of November Opening

The new rock musical “Galileo” has completed its Broadway cast ahead of previews beginning November 10 and an official opening December 6 at the Shubert Theatre.

The production will star Raúl Esparza as Galileo Galilei, marking his first Broadway appearance in 14 years. Jeremy Kushnier will play Galileo’s trusted confidant Maffeo Barberini, while Joy Woods will appear as Galileo’s daughter, Virginia Galilei.

Michael Park will alternate with Esparza in the title role at select performances.

Previously announced cast members Bradley Dean, Jordon Lee Garcia and Javier Muñoz will be joined by Gabrielle Elisabeth, Adam Halpin, Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert, Rico Lebron, Michael J. Mainwaring, Terica Marie, Rob Marnell, Alexander Mendoza, Ramone Nelson, Matty Palmer, Chase Peacock, David Rowen, Madeleine Spacapan and Erica Sweany.

Nicci Claspell, Ninako Donville, Cameron Johnson, Michal Kolaczkowski and Noah Plomgren will serve as swings.

The full casting announcement was accompanied by a video of Woods performing “Limited Life” during a workshop presentation of the musical. Woods’ portrayal of Virginia will place Galileo’s daughter at the center of the production’s conflict between scientific discovery, institutional power and personal ambition.

“Galileo” follows the astronomer as his observations challenge humanity’s accepted understanding of the universe. His refusal to abandon his findings puts him at odds with the most powerful institution of his time. As Barberini rises to power, his friendship with Galileo deteriorates, affecting both the scientist and his daughter.

Esparza previously played Galileo during the musical’s 2024 world premiere at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, where the show was developed before its Broadway transfer.

Danny Strong wrote the book for “Galileo,” with Zoe Sarnak and Michael Weiner contributing the original score. Tony Award winner Michael Mayer will direct, and Tony nominee David Neumann will choreograph.

Brian Usifer will oversee music supervision and orchestrations. The design team includes Rachel Hauck for sets, Susan Hilferty for costumes, Kevin Adams for lighting, John Shivers for sound and Ethan Tobman for video and projections. Satellite Wigs will provide hair and wig design.
