Forget Texas; Don’t Mess with Montana

Van Halen couldn’t catch her and Bruce Springsteen couldn’t top her. TicketNews.com’s weekly exclusive Top Tens belong to Miley Cyrus and her alter-ego Hannah Montana, the Disney sensation double-teaming the entertainment industry.

Hannah Montana is nothing less than a phenomenon. Again this week she takes number one on the Overall Events chart, topping events such as Wicked, Bruce Springsteen, the Dallas Cowboys, and Van Halen. Her widespread popularity and family-friendly appeal make her Disney’s golden girl. We can only hope she doesn’t go the way of High School Musical star Vannesa Hudgens, whose nude photo is being heavily circulated on the Internet, or wind up like former Mouseketeer Britney Spears, practically sleepwalking through an embarrassing flop of a lip-syncing performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Bruce Springsteen fans believe in Magic, and not just if they were able to get better-than-nosebleed seats to his upcoming tour, which moves up to number three in the rankings this week. Much like Vanessa’s picture, Springsteen’s new album, set to be released October 2, has already been leaked to the Internet. . .

With the NFL regular season now underway, a line-up of linebackers joins the Top Events rankings. The Dallas Cowboys advance four spots from number nine to number five, while the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, and San Diego Chargers fill in positions eight, nine, and ten.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fights his way back into the Top Sports rankings. His bout with Ricky Hatton returns to the chart at number five. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees no longer appear to be a contender. Last week they were riding high atop the Sports rankings, but this week they’re nowhere to be found. The Boston Red Sox, ranked number six, is the only MLB team to remain on the chart this week as the NFL continues to punt baseball out of the rankings.

In the theatre world, The Little Mermaid is doing swimmingly. The Denver production just wrapped up a sold-out seven week run, while the Broadway production, scheduled for a December 6 opening, appears on the Top New York City Theatre chart at number seven. Young Frankenstein, perhaps the more publicized of the two upcoming Broadway musicals, takes number five this week on the NYC Theatre chart, outranking not only Disney’s Little Mermaid, but also Lion King.

Bruce Springsteen’s rise to number two on the Top Concerts chart is arguably upstaged by Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s debut at number five. TSO departs from the image of Christmas carols being warbled by angelic-faced, wool-clad children reminiscent of characters in a Charles Dickens novel. With lasers, pyrotechnics, and a strong rock (if not metal) sound, TSO delivers holiday classics with a modern flair that is both joyful and triumphant.

Thanks to Phil Collins announcing “last call,” Genesis reemerges in the Top Concerts rankings at number seven, twenty-three weeks after dropping off the chart. The rankings lose their Latin beat this week due to the disappearance of Maná and Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony.

Mamma Mia! The bottom half of this week’s Vegas events get swapped out for the ABBA music-based musical at number six, KÀ at seven, Spamalot at eight, Folies Bergère at nine, and Le Rêve at ten.
