Aliya Grace to Star in ‘BOOP! The Musical’ North American Tour

Aliya Grace has been cast as Betty Boop for the upcoming North American tour of “BOOP! The Musical,” which will begin performances October 3 at the West Herr Auditorium Theatre in Rochester, New York.

The tour is scheduled to continue across the country for 50 weeks, with additional stops to be announced. Complete casting details for the production have not yet been revealed.

Jerry Mitchell, director and choreographer of the original Broadway production of “BOOP! The Musical,” shared, “From the moment Aliya walked into the room, she embodied everything we were looking for in Betty Boop.” 

“She has extraordinary talent, infectious joy, incredible heart, and the perfect blend of charm and charisma to bring the spirit of Betty Boop to a new generation,”  Mitchell said in a statement.

The touring production will recreate the Broadway version of “BOOP! The Musical,” which follows the classic animated character as she leaves her black-and-white cartoon world and enters modern-day New York City.

The musical features a book by Tony Award winner Bob Martin, music by multiple Grammy Award winner David Foster, and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Susan Birkenhead. The North American tour direction will be recreated by DB Bonds, while choreography will be recreated by Rachelle Rak.

Several members of the original creative team will return for the touring production, including scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer Gregg Barnes, lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, sound designer Gareth Owen, projection designer Finn Ross, hair and wig designer Sabana Majeed, makeup designer Michael Clifton, illusion designer Skylar Fox, marionette designer The Huber Marionettes, music supervisor and arranger Daryl Waters, and orchestrator Doug Besterman.

“BOOP! The Musical” received three Drama Desk Awards and three Outer Critics Circle Awards during its Broadway run. The production also earned Tony Award nominations for Mitchell’s choreography and Jasmine Amy Rogers’ performance in the title role.

The North American tour is produced by NETworks Presentations in association with Fleischer Studios and is based on characters created by Max Fleischer. Booking is handled by The Booking Group, with casting by Kevin Metzger-Timson, CSA and Olivia Page West, CSA of The TRC Company.
