The beloved story of “Mystic Pizza” will head across the U.S. for a national tour.
“Mystic Pizza: A New Musical,” based on the 1988 hit film of the same name, will kick-off the tour on September 26 at the Clemens Center in Elmira, New York. From there, the tour heads to St. Paul, Dayton, Dallas, Sioux Falls, and Phoenix, with multi-night performances at venues like Sarasota’s Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, the Wilson Center for the Arts in Wilmington, and Waterbury’s Palace Theatre.
The musical, with a story and characters by Amy Holden Jones and a book by Sandy Rustin, will feature “unforgettable hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s” with arrangements and orchestrations by Carmel Dean (The Notebook).
“Bursting with laughter-out-loud moments, heartfelt storytelling, and chart-toppers including “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Hold On,” “Manic Monday,” “Lost In Your Eyes,” “Mad About You,” and “Take My Breath Away,” the production notes on its website.
“Mystic Pizza” follows the story of three best friends — Kat, Daisy, and Jojo — who navigate friendships and romance while slinging pizza at a small-town pizza joint.
