Freeman Arts Pavilion Draws 12,000 Guests for Grand Opening of Renovated Venue

Freeman Arts Pavilion welcomed more than 12,000 guests during the grand opening week of its newly renovated outdoor venue, launching its 2026 season with sold-out concerts, expanded gathering spaces and a packed schedule running through October.

The July 7-11 opening celebration marked a new chapter for the Selbyville, Delaware, destination, giving audiences their first look at a redesigned campus built to make the entire evening part of the entertainment experience.

The festivities followed a July 1 ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, who highlighted the pavilion’s importance to Sussex County and its work to expand access to arts education throughout the state.

“The response to opening week was everything we hoped it would be,” said Patti Grimes, executive director of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, the nonprofit behind Freeman Arts. “After years of planning, it was incredible to see thousands of people experience the new layout — exploring the grounds, discovering new gathering spaces and creating memories together.”

Among the venue’s new features is The Grove, a pre-show destination offering local food trucks, shaded seating and drinks from The Grove Bar.

The Boardwalk gives visitors another place to gather, with beverages, Hometown Creamery treats — including an exclusive Pavilion Pretzel Swirl flavor — and views of the surrounding woodlands, lake and neighboring Bayside golf course.

The Grand Green experience also begins before the headliner takes the stage. Local musicians perform on the Lower Lawn while guests grab food and drinks from The Canteen, giving regional artists a chance to reach new audiences.

The opening week may be over, but Freeman Arts Pavilion’s season is only getting started.

The 2026 lineup continues through Oct. 3 with concerts, comedy, family programming, tribute shows and community events. Upcoming performers include Joe Bonamassa, The Fray with Dashboard Confessional, Jake Owen, Indigo Girls, Jon Pardi, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Ziggy Marley, Fitz and the Tantrums, Collective Soul, Lee Brice, Gary Clark Jr., Ray LaMontagne, James Taylor and His All-Star Band and Roger Daltrey.

“There are still so many unforgettable nights ahead,” Grimes said. “Whether it’s your first visit or your 10th, every evening at Freeman Arts Pavilion offers something unique.”
