AK Naderer to Make Broadway Debut in ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’

AK Naderer will make her Broadway debut later in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” joining the Tony Award-winning production as Nini at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

The Vienna-born, New York-based performer will begin performances in the role on July 17, succeeding Samantha Dodemaide, who recently played her final performance as Nini. Naderer previously originated the role in the Cologne, Germany, production of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” before reprising it on the show’s North American tour.

Naderer joins the Broadway company during the final weeks of the production’s run. “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” is scheduled to play its final Broadway performance on Augist 30 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

The current Broadway cast includes Christian Douglas as Christian, Kelsie Watts as Satine, Eric Anderson as Harold Zidler, André Ward as Toulouse-Lautrec, David Harris as The Duke of Monroth, Ricky Rojas as Santiago and Arianna Rosario as the Satine alternate.

Directed by Alex Timbers, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” features a book by John Logan based on Baz Luhrmann’s film of the same name. Choreography is by Sonya Tayeh, and the score combines contemporary pop music with theatrical storytelling.

The music team includes musical supervisor Justin Levine, music producer Matt Stine and music director Andrew Graham. Orchestrations are by Levine, Stine, Katie Kresek and Charlie Rosen, while Levine and Stine also created the dance arrangements.

The creative team also includes scenic designer Derek McLane, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Justin Townsend, sound designer Peter Hylenski, hair designer David Brian Brown and makeup designer Sarah Cimino. Creative services are provided by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Stephen Kopel, with Whitley Theatrical handling star casting.

Since opening on Broadway, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” has won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The production also received awards for Aaron Tveit’s leading performance, Danny Burstein’s featured performance, Alex Timbers’ direction, Sonya Tayeh’s choreography, orchestrations, and scenic, costume, lighting and sound design.

The musical has been seen by more than 12 million people across 15 productions worldwide. In addition to Broadway, the show is currently playing on a North American tour and in London’s West End, Germany, Korea, The Netherlands, on a world tour, and in non-replica productions in Scandinavia and Italy.
